A Minecraft skin is painted on a flat 64×64 texture atlas, but players see it wrapped around a character. This Minecraft skin editor 3D keeps those two views in one local workspace. Draw, erase, fill, sample colors, mirror pixels, and manage undo history on the precise 2D canvas while the nearby model rebuilds the appearance from the same pixel buffer. You can rotate the character, change zoom, choose a preset camera, and hide body parts or the outer layer when one surface needs closer inspection.

The editor does not upload the selected PNG or create an online account. The source image, current colors, drawing history, recovery draft, and exported file stay in browser storage or memory on the current device. That makes the page useful for unreleased designs, but it also means you must download work you want to preserve permanently.

How to use the 3D skin editor

Start with the blank 64×64 document or upload an existing modern PNG. Select Classic for four-pixel-wide arms or Slim for three-pixel-wide arms. Choose the pencil, set a hexadecimal color and alpha value, then click or drag over the enlarged atlas. The eraser restores transparency, the fill tool changes a connected area, and the eyedropper samples the exact RGBA value under the pointer.

Watch the model after every meaningful change. Drag the 3D preview to rotate it, use the zoom control to frame the whole character or a detail, and select front, back, left, or right presets when checking alignment. Turn the outer layer off to inspect the base underneath. Hide unrelated body parts when an arm interior, leg seam, or torso side is difficult to see.

Why a 3D preview catches different mistakes

The unfolded PNG separates the top, bottom, front, back, left, and right faces of each cuboid. Rectangles that look far apart in the atlas may touch on the rendered model. A sleeve front can meet a sleeve side, hair can cross from the head front onto the top, and a coat seam can continue from torso side to back. Flat inspection alone makes those relationships easy to overlook.

The live model helps reveal discontinuous outlines, reversed-looking symbols, mismatched cuffs, incomplete inner limbs, floating outer-layer pixels, and colors placed on the wrong face. It is a design preview rather than an official game renderer, so final testing in the intended edition or launcher remains important. Lighting, animation, client behavior, and platform import rules can differ.

Classic and Slim arm geometry

Both supported models use the same overall PNG dimensions, but the arms are interpreted differently. Classic geometry uses four-pixel-wide front and back arm faces. Slim geometry uses narrower three-pixel arms and characteristic unused columns. The model selector changes preview geometry without destructively cropping or moving the source pixels.

Choose the intended model before judging seams. Artwork designed across four columns may appear compressed or expose a strip on a Slim arm, while Slim artwork can leave an invented or blank column when treated as Classic. The editor preserves every atlas pixel during a model switch so you can compare safely; use the dedicated model converter when you actually want UV-aware pixel changes.

Base and outer layer inspection

Modern skins support optional overlay regions for hats, hair, jackets, sleeves, trouser details, and accessories. Those pixels sit slightly above the base model. Transparency is expected around overlay artwork, but the base faces underneath should normally be complete and opaque. An all-opaque overlay can hide the base and create an unintentionally bulky look.

Use the preview layer control to alternate between the combined character and the base alone. This is especially useful for checking whether hair reveals the face correctly or whether a jacket edge aligns with the shirt beneath it. The skin checker can provide exact base-hole and outside-UV reports, while the 3D editor supplies the visual context needed for artistic corrections.

Body-part visibility and camera presets

Complex skins contain hidden-facing surfaces such as inner arms, inner legs, shoulder tops, and soles. Rotating the whole model can still leave one area obstructed. Body-part visibility controls let you temporarily remove the head, torso, arms, or legs from the preview without deleting their pixels. When the part is restored, its texture remains unchanged.

Camera presets provide repeatable views for comparison. Front view is useful for facial symmetry and outfit balance. Back view reveals hair, jacket, belt, and shoe continuity. Left and right views expose side seams and asymmetric details. Free rotation then lets you inspect corners between those standard directions. Zoom changes only the preview framing and never changes PNG resolution.

Pixel tools that support a 3D workflow

Use one-pixel pencil size for facial features, outlines, and seam corrections. Larger brush sizes help establish broad clothing colors, but their square footprint can cross UV boundaries, so monitor the model as you draw. Mirror mode is convenient for symmetrical arms or legs; disable it before adding badges, scars, hair parts, or other deliberate asymmetry.

Undo and redo operate on drawing gestures rather than arbitrary server versions. Grid and coordinate labels help connect the enlarged canvas to exact source pixels. Recent colors make it easier to keep highlights and shadows consistent across separated faces. None of these tools invents missing art or promises automatic quality; the preview is most useful when paired with deliberate pixel decisions.

Import, recovery, and PNG export

Uploads must be genuine PNG files no larger than the configured local limit and exactly 64×64 pixels. A 64×32 legacy skin needs the dedicated converter because the old atlas lacks independent left limbs. A 128×128 HD texture needs a resolution-aware workflow and should not be silently squeezed into this editor.

Local recovery can restore a recent browser draft after an accidental reload, subject to storage availability and browser clearing. It is not a cloud backup. Download creates a 64×64 RGBA PNG from the current canvas. Keep the original and use a new filename until the result has passed the skin checker and a suitable destination preview.

Privacy, compatibility, and ownership

The 3D preview is generated from pixels already in the page. SkinEditor.org does not need a player username, Microsoft login, Mojang credential, or server-side image upload. Browser analytics, when enabled, should not include image pixels, filenames, chosen colors, or draft content. Clearing browser data may remove recovery state.

Use skins you created or have permission to modify. Editing a copyrighted character or another creator's design locally does not grant redistribution rights. Frequently asked questions

Does the 3D view change my PNG?

No. Rotation, zoom, camera presets, body-part visibility, and layer visibility affect preview state only. Drawing tools are the actions that modify pixels.

Is this a real 3D game renderer?

It is an interactive browser preview for design inspection. Test the exported skin in the intended game edition because final rendering and import behavior can differ.

Can I edit Slim and Classic skins?

Yes. Select the matching arm model. Toggling the selector changes geometry but does not automatically convert arm artwork.

Why does a seam look correct in 2D but wrong in 3D?

The neighboring wrapped face may live in another atlas rectangle or use a different orientation. Rotate the model and edit both sides of the boundary.

Are uploaded skins stored online?

No. Image decoding, editing, preview, recovery, and PNG export operate locally in the browser.
