This Minecraft skin editor 2D page is for creators who want exact control over the 64×64 PNG atlas. The main workspace shows the unfolded texture, pixel tools, color controls, history, body-part visibility, Classic or Slim model intent, and a live model preview. You can begin with the blank local document or select an existing compatible PNG. Image pixels stay in the browser.
A 2D skin canvas is not a front-facing character drawing. It is a UV atlas containing separate rectangles for the front, back, sides, tops, and bottoms of the head, torso, arms, and legs. The base layer defines the character body. The outer layer adds optional hair, hats, jackets, sleeves, trouser overlays, and other details. Precise editing starts with understanding which rectangle you are changing.
Why use a 2D editor
The unfolded view makes individual coordinates and boundaries visible. It is especially useful for repairing one-pixel seams, aligning sleeve edges, checking transparent columns, copying a color, and working on faces that are difficult to reach through a model-only interface. A hard pixel brush also avoids the antialiasing that ordinary photo editors may introduce.
The model preview remains important. A rectangle that looks correct in the atlas can meet another rectangle at a visible edge when wrapped. Alternate between the 2D canvas and model rather than treating either one as complete evidence.
Classic and Slim arm layouts
Modern Classic and Slim skins normally share the same 64×64 file dimensions, but their arm regions differ. Classic has four-pixel-wide arm fronts and backs. Slim has three. Choose the intended model before drawing detailed sleeves or hands.
Changing the preview model helps diagnose appearance but does not silently rearrange source pixels. If an existing file needs an actual arm-layout transformation, use the dedicated Classic-to-Slim converter and review every arm face afterward.
Pixel tools and controlled changes
Use the pencil for exact opaque or transparent color placement, the eraser for alpha removal, fill for connected regions, and the color picker to reuse an existing RGBA value. Undo and redo let you evaluate a change without rebuilding earlier work. Save downloaded milestones even when a local draft is available.
Drag a rectangle selection when an edit must stay inside one face or detail. Pencil and fill operations are clipped to that area. You can also focus the current UV face at 4× zoom, shade only its existing opaque pixels with an edge-aware light pattern, or apply a horizontal or vertical two-color gradient without changing transparency. These actions remain single Undo/Redo steps.
Work from large regions to small detail. Establish hair, face, shirt, trousers, and shoes before adding highlights. Use deliberate clusters for shading. Random single-pixel noise often makes the texture busy and creates accidental seams.
Mirror can help with symmetrical limbs when the design is intentionally paired, but perfect symmetry is not required. Small differences such as a wrist device, patch, glove, or torn hem can make the character more readable. Always inspect the mirrored result because UV orientation can make a copied mark face the wrong direction.
Base and outer layers
The base layer should contain the essential visible character. Do not rely on a hat or jacket overlay to hide missing face, torso, arm, or leg pixels. The outer layer can remain transparent where no extra geometry is wanted.
Temporarily hide the outer layer to inspect the base. Then enable it and check whether opaque overlay pixels cover details unexpectedly. Hair fringes, helmet borders, jacket hems, and sleeve cuffs benefit from repeated comparison.
Import, validate, and export
The editor accepts a supported PNG and validates the file before decoding. Preserve the untouched source. If the file is legacy 64×32, convert it with the legacy converter instead of stretching it. If it is 128×128, use the resizer when a 64×64 editing target is required.
Download as PNG to retain transparency and exact pixel colors. JPEG has no alpha channel and introduces compression. After export, run the skin checker to inspect dimensions, base-layer holes, overlay use, model likelihood, and pixels outside mapped faces.
Local-first privacy
Selected files, filenames, colors, drafts, and edits are not sent to an upload API. SkinEditor.org does not require an account, publish a gallery, or store projects in a business database. A browser draft is convenient but not a backup; clearing site data, using a private window, or changing devices can remove it.
A dependable 2D workflow
Choose Classic or Slim, preserve the source, and identify the body region. Make one controlled change, check the atlas, rotate the preview, and use undo when the result is unclear. Inspect the back and inner limbs as carefully as the face. Download under a new filename and validate the result before importing it into the game.

Can I draw directly on the 3D model?
The published workflow edits the unfolded 2D texture and updates the model preview. It does not claim raycast painting directly on geometry.
Does switching Classic and Slim convert pixels?
No. Preview switching is read-only. Use the model converter when you intentionally need a transformed file.
What should I check before download?
Inspect all sides, base and outer layers, inner limbs, transparency, model choice, and final 64×64 PNG dimensions.
