Why Does My Roblox Shirt Look Wrong?

Preview the same file you exported

When a Roblox shirt looks wrong, begin with the exact PNG that was submitted or is ready for submission. The local preview above reads the file in your browser and maps the artwork onto a simplified Classic Clothing rig. It helps distinguish a source-layout problem from a temporary display or platform issue.

Do not preview the layered design document while uploading a different flattened file. Export can change dimensions, alpha, color mode, guides, and scaling. Comparing the final PNG with itself across 2D and rig views gives a reliable starting point.

Verify the clothing type

A Classic Shirt uses a full template that wraps the torso and arms. Classic Pants wrap the lower body, and a Classic T-shirt is a square front graphic. Choosing the wrong type can make a valid image appear missing, stretched, or mapped onto unexpected surfaces.

The full Shirt canvas is 585×559. A square logo does not contain sleeve, side, back, top, or bottom faces. Resizing a square image to 585×559 only distorts it; it does not create those missing regions.

Run the checker if you are unsure about the decoded dimensions or detected shape. Correct the category before adjusting individual pixels.

Understand the 2D template as folded surfaces

The template is not a flat poster. Each rectangle corresponds to a face of the torso or an arm. Front, back, left, right, top, and bottom panels are separated in 2D and then placed next to one another on the avatar.

A logo painted across unrelated rectangles will break apart when folded. A stripe that should circle the torso must continue at matching heights across the front, side, and back faces. Use guides while editing, then hide or remove guide artwork before final export.

Diagnose mirrored sleeves

Left and right limbs face different directions. Copying one sleeve directly onto the other without a deliberate mirror can reverse text, move a cuff seam, or place an outer-arm detail on the inner arm.

Use asymmetric test marks during development: a small temporary arrow or colored corner can reveal orientation quickly. Remove these marks before export. For text or directional symbols, inspect both arms in the preview rather than assuming identical pixel placement produces identical visual orientation.

If only one arm is wrong, do not rebuild the entire shirt. Compare the corresponding face rectangles, mirror the required artwork intentionally, and re-export one controlled revision.

Fix seam gaps and jumps

Seams become visible where adjacent faces meet. A one-pixel vertical shift can break a belt, stripe, cuff, or jacket edge. A background color that differs slightly across faces can create a thin line even when the design looks continuous at normal 2D zoom.

Zoom in and compare the boundary rows and columns. Use exact color values, not visually similar colors chosen twice. The palette extractor can reveal near-duplicate shades. Extend patterns to the correct edge without painting into unrelated template areas.

Curved or diagonal designs are harder because the perceived line crosses a corner. Test several small revisions and view the rig from front, side, and back. Optimize for the folded result, not merely for symmetry in the flat template.

Check top, bottom, and inner faces

Designers often focus on the front panel and forget the underside of sleeves, top of shoulders, side of torso, or lower faces. Those surfaces become visible when the avatar moves or the camera rotates.

Fill intentional base colors across every required face. Transparent or guide-only regions may reveal the avatar body or create abrupt holes. The checker’s coverage report helps locate empty mapped areas, but artistic intent still requires visual inspection.

Do not blindly fill all transparent pixels. Some transparency can be intentional. Decide per mapped face and compare against both light and dark backgrounds.

Watch for template guide residue

First-party templates may include colored outlines, labels, arrows, or face names to explain mapping. Those guides are useful while editing but should not become part of the final clothing unless deliberately incorporated.

Keep a layered master with guides on a separate layer. Export a clean copy with guides hidden. Reopen the PNG and preview it at high zoom. If colored edge lines appear on the rig, return to the source rather than trying to blur or crop the final output.

Avoid accidental image smoothing

Resizing can create soft edges and shift small details. A Shirt exported at the wrong size and later forced to 585×559 may no longer align perfectly with template boundaries. Fractional transforms can place lines between pixels and introduce antialiasing.

Set the correct canvas before drawing. For pixel art, use integer coordinates and nearest-neighbor scaling when a deliberate resize is unavoidable. For painted art, smoothing may be appropriate, but boundary placement still must remain exact.

Repeated resize cycles accumulate damage. Return to the highest-quality master, resize once, and inspect the result with the blur analyzer.

Compare local preview with platform display

The local rig is a diagnostic approximation, not Roblox’s renderer. Lighting, avatar proportions, texture filtering, camera distance, body type, and platform updates can affect the official result. A design that aligns locally but differs on one avatar may be influenced by that target context.

Test with the intended Classic Clothing setup and rotate through multiple angles. If the flat file is correct and multiple local views agree, document where the official result differs. This makes further troubleshooting more specific than “it looks wrong.”

R6 and R15 previews can also differ in proportions and articulation. The source template mapping remains important, but visual stretching around joints may change.

Use a controlled correction loop

Change one category at a time: clothing type, orientation, seam alignment, transparency, or scale. Export with a numbered filename locally, preview, and compare. Although this site does not upload or store versions, you can keep a small local folder of controlled revisions.

When the issue is fixed, delete temporary marks and run the checker again. Confirm dimensions, alpha, mapped coverage, and visible content. Then use the current official creation flow for the final test.

Privacy, rights, and scope

The preview decodes the selected image locally. Pixels and filenames are not sent to SkinEditor.org, and no login or database is used. Closing or refreshing the page clears the temporary preview.
